Llao llao

Morning!
I am finally not a Llao llao Virgin anymore! I'm pretty sure it's the most popular froyo in town now. It has expanded to Somerset and Singapore Poly. Oh you lucky school having all kinds of food there. Now, a dessert store in school? Let's have one in NTU! Lol.

From the name llao llao, I seriously thought it was Chinese origin. Coz it does sound Chinese, no? Unfortunately, sorry if I have insulted the brand name. It's from Europe! No wonder I see ang mohs outside the store today. Business meeting prolly? Llao llao first store was at Marina Square. Just a walking distance from my work place (Yoguru's RC) but I finally tried it today.

I'm not sure what's special to this llao llao froyo tho. Probably it's due to the way they present their cup of froyo. I bought the above and it's called Sanum - parfait looking. I did recommend that Yoguru should sell something like that too. It's presentable and attractive, don't you think so? After endlessly scrolling down Instagram pictures of llao llao for the past few months, I too wanted to have a llao llao picture in my insta feed. But, it ended up being here. Sad to say, my cup of froyo wasn't pretty enough to be on my insta. Boohoo :(

The girl who served my froyo was not generous at all. I saw how the way she scoop up my fruit and cookie topping. You know you're serving teengers/young adults and they're very observant on this kind of things, why don't you be a lil generous? From pictures I saw on insta, wow... The serving was a lot, the sauce was too generous. But... Mine meh. Here's what I ordered:

Sanum consists of three types of fruits, one type of dry toppings and one type of sauce. I choose strawberry, watermelon and blueberry as my fruit toppings. Caramelised cookie for dry - it was soooooo good to be honest. Suits the froyo fyi. And mango sauce.

For now, I'll still stick to Yoguru as my favourite froyo store! Yay!

Rainbow desserts - I Am... cafe

After visiting Line Pop Up store, we headed for some desserts! We decided not to eat our usual waffles date. Instead we had rainbow cakes. At first, we visited La Marelle Cafe but somehow or rather, the cafe wasn't up to my expectations. I thought it was very spacious and cozy. But it was... rather small? There were not much cakes as what I've seen on Instagram.

We then headed for I Am... cafe! I'd like to intro Eunice to the rainbow crepes. So, hungry me decided to challenge myself for an extra cake - rainbow cake. And now I know why people don't finish their cakes (both red velvet and rainbow). It's soooooo creamy with cream cheese!!! I cannot! What seemed like I played with my food... But I didn't. I was segregating the cream cheese of course.

^ Rainbow cake & rainbow crepe ($8.50 each)
Still love the rainbow crepe though. Omnomnomnom~

I Am.... Cafe (Sunday's Brunch)

had dinner with him at I Am...Cafe!  I love the way they do their food plating, their cakes over there (not that I had them tonight)
On Sundays, I Am.. Cafe specially changed their usual menu. They had the Brunch Menu special which kinda consist of .... Well, breakfast + lunch food! Duh. However, I felt it was more of breakfast food and... less on the lunch part. I was quite shocked to see no pizzas/burgers/fries which was what I had the last time I visited the cafe.

Nonetheless, the above food we had were the ones I looked forward to have in a cafe. They seriously melted my heart with their food plating. I thought they were gonna serve us in small portion but heeeyy.... I forgot the name of the food we had but it's $12.90 each. Can la hor the pricing since we dined in a cafe... the food plating definitely is pretty,

Krispy Kreme Singapore

Finally I visited Krispy Kreme Singapore. I was half hearted to visit the only Krispy Kreme store in Singapore as I assumed it might still have the super long queue. Once I visited (which was a week after their grand opening), they still had super long queue and duh, I can't be bothered to queue. Moreover, it was 8pm for god's sake. If I queued, I might end up going home probably 9++pm or I might have brought home less than half a dozen of doughnuts.

Surprisingly, (of course) there was still queue, but it wasn't bad at all! It took me around 5 minutes or so for my turn to order! Yes, it was that fast! And boooooo to those who had to queue for super long time to get their hands on these doughnuts! Upon seeing their shelves, they really ahd a lot of doughnuts on display. However, half of the display was totally redundant. They probably have less than 10 kind of flavour. I didn't realise that after paying for my doughnuts. Seriously, took me a long time to decide which flavour to take.

My mum insisted one me buying a dozen doughnuts. Not sure if she's for real or is she just being greedy upon seeing those delicious looking doughnuts. hahah! But, I stayed firm on my decision for half a dozen doughnuts. This house I expect no one to eat one doughnut all by himself. It was proven and I'm always right when deciding to buy desserts for the family.

^ Red Velvet Doughnut
Not at all does it taste like a doughnut. Not at all does it have doughnut texture - the ones soft and doughy. The Red Velvet doughnut they have here was more cake-y than doughnut-y. I don't understand the definition of doughnut when I ate this. It's a cake shaped like a doughnut. That's all I've got to say.
At your first bite, you try to convince yourself that it isn't too sweet, but.... the more bites you have for this doughnut the sweetness finally kicks in. The sweetness definitely comes from the glazed icing on the doughnut. Luckily, the red velvet cake has a bitter taste (which I assume it's from the cocoa powder - in the making of red velvets). This doughnut isn't too sweet at all :)

^ Glazed Chocolate Cake Doughnut
Similar to Red Velvet's, it was not doughnut-y at all. It was more of cake-y. Since chocolate cake itself is sweet, in addition to the glazed icing, it made it even more super sweeeeet. I don't like it.

 ^ Strawberry/ Blueberry filled Doughnuts
If you're a person who is afraid to venture your taste bud to different kind of flavours, you'll end up sticking to the simple strawberry or blueberry filled powdered doughnuts. All hell break loose, it was a bad choice after all. Hahaha! Why so? The strawberry or blueberry fillings were darrrnnnnn sweet I tell you. The doughnut itself was perfectly soft and delicious. It's weird because you wished they will be generous on the fillings but now, you find yourself quietly squeezing out as much fillings as possible and disposing them.

^ Peanut Butter  Doughnut
This is a new flavour!!!! I am so glad it made it into Krispy Kreme menu! Among all the doughnuts I purchased, this was the besssstt! I love peanut butter and it will never fail on me. Krispy Kreme doughnut dough is as soft as can be. And that's what best doughnuts should have. The peanut butter,of course, was not sweet at all. Am I being bias here? I don't think sooo~~

I Am... Cafe

Headed down for cafe lunch with bro and mama at I Am Cafe. It's easy to find this store as it is located just by the roadside. Also, along Haji Lane and very close by Masjid Sultan. By now, everyone would have heard of this cafe. Especially for the Muslims as it as trendy as a cafe would be and also Halal! That what matters to us :)

I am so glad that this cafe existed. I am now able to enjoy lovely and pleasant cafe setting. Moreover, I get the opportunity to indulge myself to delicious, stylish plating of foods. Such as thin crust pizzas, fat and yummy fries, variety of delicious cakes and pies and also  cute mini (nice plating) burgers! Yummm!

^ Fries with Mayo, $5.90+
It's unlike any other normal fries such as those in Manhattan Fish Market/ Fish & Co. Their fries were fat and so potato-ish taste. It was not salty at all and served warm was the best fries I've eaten. Is it just me being so hungry or is it the fries being so naturally delicious?

^ Hawaiian Pizza, $12.90+
I have a fetish for cafe settings. And one of the plus points for it was the way they plate their foods. The pizza was of thin crust (most probably the biscuit crust type). The ham on the pizza wasn't stingy at all! Just look at them hammss! *drools* As I am a small eater, cafe is my cup of tea and having just three slices of the pizza made me full already! :)

^ Rainbow Crepe, $8.90+
"There's always room for desserts!"
The rainbow crepe looks dashing and appetizing. It sure does! However, the price paid for it doesn't top the amount of happiness I have for it (marginal utility lesser than marginal cost - how now?!). I thought it was meh, normal, so-so. I even did take a closer look at it and announced that I would be able to make my own rainbow crepe although it's very troublesome with all the redundant layers~

I'm sure to come again coz I love the cafe setting. Hehehe. Maybe for more of the pizza! YAY!

Merely Ice Cream

You might not have heard of Merely Ice Cream before. Well, it has only one branch and they are located not at fancy places where people might often hang out.
Right after finals, I was craving for waffles and ice cream of course. It has been so long ever since I had such food for my soul. HAHA! So, I've seen people instagramming Merely Ice Cream. Fortunately, we were around the area - Bugis - we decided to locate the store.

It was just right opposite and close by Nafa! Really convenient to chill at such places yah, Nafa students? hahaha. I sure would go visit everyday if I were them. Eat til I'm so sick of waffles and ice cream! The store ambience was pleasant and quiet. Told you little people hang out over there~ It was a lovely setting with those cool crate-like tables that gives a vintage look to it.

^Waffles with Hazelnut Kit Kat Ice Cream, $6.10
The waffles were absolutely crispy and warm when served. I love the smell and the sound of crispy waffles. I sure won't complain upon seeing brownish almost burnt waffles sides because I love the crust and the crispiness it gives.
Hazelnut kit kat ice cream was a spot on choice of ice cream! Before deciding on ur ice cream, they would allow you to sample the ice cream of your choice! How lovely. In addition, they have variety of ice cream. I tell you... You'll sure be spoilt for choice! And I sure did! Hahaha. To be on the safe side, I'll just stick to chocolate base.

Fluff Bakery

I'm back and free to roam around for food currently. Right after finals, I headed down to Bugis, walked straight down to Jalan Pisang. There you have it just right opposite Hajjah Maimunah, the lovely famous cupcake store, Fluff Bakery!

The store can be easily spotted as they had a familiar logo/sign-age hanging right above and outside their store. Moreover, Fluff Bakery was located close to Cinta Kek! I wonder how tough it is to have two well-known cupcake stores on the same aisle and located quite close to one another. Similarly, Spatula and Sweeet Tooth Addiction. Okay, let's not talk about this.

Fluff Bakery's store was simply the most adorable cupcake store I've ever seen! It was certainly a-dream-come-true cupcake store outlook and ambience for me. I would love to own a store like that too! The two vintage bicycles caught my eye the most. I'm sure it did too for the others. As I stepped into the store, it smelt delicious (like the way it did at Spatula's). It was calm inside the store despite the hustle and bustle of hard working bakers in the kitchen. I certainly miss working in a cupcake store but I wouldn't want to be in such situations any more. It's exhausting to be honest!

I bought myself half a dozen cupcakes. Luckily, it was raining in the noon and went I reached there (which was about 1.15-1.30pm), there were no long queue at all! Hooray! Unfortunately, one of the cupcake was sold out by then despite them operating at 12 noon :(
Fluff Bakery changes their cupcake flavours weekly and the 'always must have one' cupcake are the Nutella Red Velvet and Salted Caramel. So, not to worry if you crave for either one of them. However, you'll just have to be early before it sold out!

^ Cinnamon Banana Caramel Pretzel Crumbs, $4
Banana cake base with cinnamon banana filling. Caramel (i think so?) cream and top it off with pretzel crumbs.
Honestly, the filling was a tad too sweet for me and my dad. Banana cake base was fine tho :)

^Gingerbread Maple Liquid Cheesecake, $4
Cinnamon maple base with cheese filling. Maple liquid cream.
All I know this tasted gross to me. The cheese filling was extremely not tasty at all that I couldn't and wouldn't want to have more than just a lick to it. Neither do I fancy the cake, I sure as well didn't like the minty/cinnamon taste to it. Oh it was undesirable and I hated this. Sorry.

^Strawberry Thyme Fruity Pebbles, $4
Vanilla cake base with strawberry jam/paste filling. Buttercream with thyme taste (i thought so?). Top it off with fruity pebbles.
This was indeed safe to eat and the strawberry filling was not sweet. It was perfectly fine. Although, I didn't catch the thyme taste. I'm guessing it was incorporated in the cream or maybe fruity pebbles?

^Nutella Red Velvet, $4
Need I say more? It was the most delicious among the cupcakes I bought! Yummmmmmmzzz! I wished I bought 3 of these instead of 2.

Yay! Happy people with happy food!

Max Brenner Chocolate Bar

Hello November!

Obviously, everyone knows November is a great month. I hope so ya'll will find it legit.
Since November is a great month, everyone has to be great to me too. Especially my brother. He was the first to be great and awesome person to start off my great month - November. Due to next Saturday quiz he's gonna be having, he decided to treat me... well, the family, to happy yummy food.

What is happy yummy food? Hohoho, Max Brenner Chocolate Bar's desserts everybody!

The moment I was outside the store I was delighted to see the store's cozy ambience. I like such stores. It made me feel posh some way or another. Haha. Although we were quite.... unsure whether we could eat the food over there... So, we took a look at the menu first (just to be sure). LUCKILY, THE ALCOHOLS WERE CANCELLED (no available anymore liaaaooo!) And after flipping thru the menu, getting four thumbs up and two honest approval from the parents, my brother and I chose the crepe and waffles. To be sure our order was going to awesome, I googled for pictures of our order. They say picture describes a thousand words.

When we got served, the portion of each dessert was generous and big enough to feed two skinny people. I said skinny... Coz I'm very sure the famished would be able to finish it all by himself. There was one lady who did. Impressive!

^ Banana Hazelnut Crêpe ($17.90)
chocolate hazelnut spread, sliced bananas, chocolate chunks and chopped hazelnuts.
served with milk chocolate ganache, Choco-pops and dulce de leche ice cream

^ Banana Split Waffles ($18.90)
caramelized bananas, vanilla icecream, sugar krispies, milk chocolate ganache and Choco-pops

No doubt due to the generous portion and yummy food, the price also... 'generous'. But I guess it was worth paying for :) Note, it's better to share! Don't be glutton if you were to dine in such places. Unless you can handle sweets that much. All in all, sharing is caring.

Thai Coconut Ice Cream

Heard the all the buzz regarding book sales, the Halal food exhibition thinggg at Expo. So, decided to work hard and complete as much assignments on Friday and Saturday morning. And, yuppp... I sure can do it! I've completed quite as much... I suppose :)

Thanks to Razz for tempting me to go down to Expo and get some crap from Popular Booksale. I brought home 1 set of highlighter (not sure whether there's ink or not....... I hope so lah!) and correction tapesssss ( 3 for  $4.90 - with refills all that). I spent below$10 for all these. It's afforadable okaaaayyy! I wanted to get a storybook but nothing attracts me... Neither, does the price of the book (some of them). Only boring storybooks were darn cheap. So, I better not splurged on unnecessary stuff. Yay me!

Next, I heard from my mum that she tried this popular Thai Coconut Ice Cream at Expo as well. Hooow could she have tried when I haven't evennn....!??!? So, there you go, Humaira :) It was a bloody $5 treat. Nevertheless, I won't complain on the price much because my mum forked out the money! HAHAHAHAHAH! :') Thank youuuuu~
To me, it tasted great and had this explosion-feeling (booomz!) at the beginning of consumption. And as the ice cream melts and.... you get tire of scooping the ice cream, the wow-feeling just fades awayyy~ Nonetheless, I finally tried it! It was sold at Ramadhan Bazaar, Geylang. Sadly, I didn't chance upon it at that time (even though I went twice).

Trip down Somerset

Finall, I managed to find time away from work and catch up with these two donkeys. It's been long since I went out with them - almost a month if I'm not wrong. So, we went iftar together at Eighteen Chefs! We weren't exactly sure where to go but, we knew we had something planned. Razz and I wanted to get our New Balance shoes! (We've been longing for ittttt)

Since she had 25% discount which ended on 31st July itself, we decided Somerset was a good choice to shop for New Balance shoes. Why? Because Cineleisure has Leftfoot. And, over at Leftfoot thery have various New Balance designs which can be seen on the web store. Moreover, Scape, too, has New Balance outlet. However, it has much limited designs, we can still use the 25% voucher Razz has! :D

And yes, at the end of the day, we did brought home a pair of New Balance shoe. And I certainly loved mine! Although, it looks kinda guyish... but heeeyyy, whatever~ Totally worth the trip, the reccee and also, spending the whole night over at New Balance outlet. Pssst, they were actually about to close their store anyway. Hell, we spent a loooooonngg time over there! They must be pissed, I supposed. HAHAHAAHAHHA!

Well, here's to a very jolly good time reading what I wrote above. It's timeee to peel your eyes to amazing food shots! Eighteen Chefs' desserts are to die forrrr!!! Like I said I want to come here again, I suureeeee did! This time round I tried the Cheese Baked Rice (which I ate on my own and almost did finish it! YAY ME!). We, then, bought two types of desserts - Brownie and Blueberry Waffles.

Malacca Trip - Part 3

Last day of the Malacca trip! And the last to grocery shopping and also, delicious halal foods! We last dined in at Old Town White Coffee! And I loved their tea break set! TOAST TOAST TOAST !!!! WOOHOOO! :D

PappaMia

Sent my aunt and uncle off to perform their glorious umrah and after that my family and I dined in at Changi Aiport Terminal 1's PappaMia! It's been soooo long since I dined in with my family members. Apparently, each one of us have started to be so busy with work. Especially me having to work on weekends at cupcake store and Yoguru :( Thank god I was able to take off from cupcake store today! Yipppeee! Hopefully they did fine today. hahaha! I heard all the cake in jars Faezah and I made sold out fast! Not forgeting the cupcakes!

Let'sget back to what I wanna blog today. It's about PappaMia! It's really a fancy and cozy place to dine in. However,I don't think they had much variety in this restaurant. I don't recommend this place as the food there wasn't to die for :( It was simple and does not even have any kick to it. It was pricey and I even thought coffee shops served waaaay better food. Not only that, price wise coffee shops definitely wins a prize!

Nonetheless, I'll share with you guys a few food/desserts that made me pleased with this restaurant.
^ Coconut Ice cream with Gula Melaka.
There was a picture displayed on the menu and we had trouble choosing between this and mango sago dessert. So, we thought we should give this a try and thinking that mango sago was simple~ Unfortunately, I might not give another try on this (definitely). It was simply just... Coconut ice cream placed on top a coconut. And the insides of the coconut was only gula melaka. No coconut jelly (at the sides) neither there was any coconut juice inside as well. NONE.

Yup, it was definitely quite pathetic to have ordered this and wasnt worth the money. If I'm not wrong it costs around $5.90 - $7.90++. Geeeezz. But, the coconut ice cream was quite delightful with the fattening taste. Mmmm.

^ Tauhu Goreng
This one is to die for!! Definitely worth the money (even if I forgot how much it was). It was super crispy the way they fry the tauhu. The sauce was so delightful that we kinda.... finished it first even when we are left with half of the tauhu. We, too, thought of asking for a refill for the sauce (but doubt so they'll give haha!) Even, I, the not-a-fan of beancurds, loved this dish so much! Mmmm.. I was quietly sneaking to eat this. Because my family definitely knew I wasn't into this type of beancurd-y dishes~

^ Chendol Gula Melaka
This dessert can never upset anyone, right? I'm always a fan of Chendol currently. Luckily, this restaurant did their chendol with absolute perfection. It tastes so gooood! And I enjoyed it from the start to the end of consuming it. Can't say anything much about this dessert by the way .HAHAHA!

Rainbow Ramble Cupcakes - Spatula Bakery

Made rainbow cupcakes at work today as someone ordered these for a party! And we has to sell them the next day as well! And oh hell no I'm not gonna do these rainbow cupcakes anymore at work. It is darnnn tedious, muscle &  back aching and tiring process to do all these. I'm seriously not kidding. However, a few didn't turn out to well because there were thin layers of that certain colour or mixed with the other colour and whatsoever~

I did bring home one rejected cupcake at the end of the day. It was still delicious though. Mmmm! :D

22 April 2013

Cakes in a Jar - Spatula Bakery

Have you tried Spatul Bakery's cake in a jar? No?!?!!
Well, shame on you, honey! You better try them! It's worth it as the jar fits up to 2-3 cupcakes, a hell loads of cream frosting and surprises in between those cake and frosting layers! Mmmmm~ Nom nom nom.

Spatula bakery doesn't have these every single day though, sadly. They have it around the weekends (at times). Well, easy said.... when we are all free enough to make these cakes in the jar! hahha. Yes, no doubt everyone's been repeatedly asking for them but so sorry :( However, if it does happen to be sold on that particular day, it has various flavours ! And Spatula bakery really made sure that those flavours will be unique to whatever cake in the jar you've previously consumed.

Chiffon Cake (Pandan)

Second lesson of my cake begineer module class! It's simple easy peasy cheapo chiffon pandan cake! But heeeeyyy, not that easy as it looks alright! The techniques in making them need skills to ensure no mistakes in the ingredients, to whisk up meringue perfectly fine and to MAKE SURE IT DOESN'T OVERBEAT OR UNDERBEAT!

How beautiful is this cake~ Similarly to marble cake, this darling chiffon cake tastes like air and springs back after pressing it. The pandan aroma was simply appetizing and it taste juuuuuust right! Though it's a cheapo cake and can be bought at yours truly Giant supermarket, NTUC, etc. But when you make it and consume it with a cup of tea, it's the biggest and proudest achievement you've ever done.

Surprise surprise, other chiffon cake flavours will be posted up soon (if I make them).
